The Lesbian Historic Motif Podcast talks about women who loved women in history and motifs relevant to the writing of sapphic historical fiction. We also cover news and information about the field. If you have a book coming out, let us know! If you'd be interested in appearing on the podcast, drop me an email (see contact form). If you want to be a fangirl and tell all your friends how great we are.. please do so!
The following links are for the new independent podcast channel. Currently we're re-releasing the existing shows so that they'll continue to be available once our previous host closes down. Starting in January 2021, this will be your sole source for the Lesbian HIstoric Motif Podcast.
The Lesbian Historic Motif Podcast is a partner to the LHMP blog and discusses specific individuals, topics, or publications that I think people might find particularly interesting. While the blog summarizes research relating to various lesbian-like topics of interest to authors and readers, the podcast has a more informal storytelling style. It also gives me a chance to present readings from some of the historic texts that the project covers.
Founded in 2016, the schedule expanded to weekly in 2017, including other types of material: author interviews, book recommendation, a monthly review of new fiction, and in months with a fifth weekly show, something special. In 2018, that "something special" became the fiction series, publishing new f/f historical fiction. The fiction series pays professional rates with paid narrators (except when yours truly narrates). Now, in late 2020 the podcast is casting free from the mothership of The Lesbian Talkshow (TLT) and setting up to be independent. All the existing content is being migrated to our new site (see links above) and the show will be released in parallel on both channels for the last couple months of the year. Starting in January 2021, we'll be exclusively at our independent channel and will cut back to twice a month (plus special fiction episodes), alternating a "magazine" episode that may contain new fiction, interviews, and thematic book lists, with the continuing historic essays.
My goal is to have transcripts of all episodes. This is easy for the scriped shows, but I'm in the process of converting the rough transcriptions that YouTube provides into accurate transcripts of the interview shows.
